Wellsboro Area Chamber of Commerce to host legislators, regional director at breakfast
The annual combined Wellsboro Area Chamber of Commerce/GROW Breakfast Meeting will be Nov. 7 at the Penn Wells Hotel in Wellsboro, according to a news release. The breakfast buffet will open at 7:30 a.m. The program will begin promptly at 8 a.m. There will be a brief business meeting with a review of 2019. The meeting is open to the public.
Guest speakers for the event are U.S. Rep. Fred Keller, R-Kreamer; state Rep. Clint Owlett, R-Wellsboro and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services regional director Matt Baker.
At the Chamber/GROW meeting, Keller will talk about the need to pass the United States, Mexico and Canada Trade Agreement and work on other trade agreements to help grow manufacturing and agriculture in Pennsylvania and America; the benefits and partnerships of the Pennsylvania energy industry in promoting job creation and workforce development opportunities; and the work he has done in his committee assignments and votes he’s taken to promote a better economic climate and stand up for job creators, the news release said.
According to the news release, Owlett will give a legislative update at the meeting and Baker will speak about Department of Health and Human Services’ priorities and their impact on this area.
Keller is serving his first term in Congress, after being elected in a special election to fill the unexpired term of U.S. Rep. Tom Marino, R-Cogan Station.
Baker resigned as a member of the state House of Representatives in February, 2018, to become the regional director of the Office of Intergovernmental and External Affairs at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services office in Philadelphia. He had represented Pennsylvania District 68 from 1993 to 2018.
