Students pay tribute to Renovo-area veterans

RENOVO — It was an often emotional Veterans Day program yesterday morning at Bucktail Area High School as the school and community joined hands in honoring all veterans in their program “Heroes Among Us.”

In an event that manages to get bigger and better every year, the seats on the gym floor were filled with veterans and their families and the bleachers were packed with students from Pre-K through 12th grade.

Patriotic songs, slide shows and speeches not only honored those who served but were often educational when it comes to remembering just what western Clinton County has to celebrate in its rich tradition of serving.

Keystone Central Superintendent Jacquelyn Martin said in her closing remarks that the program was quite possibly the best one that she had ever seen in 30 years of taking part in them as an educator and praised the Renovo community for their patriotism.

Included on the guest list were five World War II veterans — John Curcio, Calvin Funk, Donald Pagnotto, Charles Kane and Ernie Peterson.
