Ricketts Glen Could Be Crowded
HARRISBURG (AP)-The state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is warning the public that Ricketts Glen State Park could reach capacity over Memorial Day weekend, resulting in people being turned away at the entrance.
Campers who have reserved sites will not have their access restricted, but the department says day-use visitors had to be turned away last weekend and that rangers are expecting similar or even larger crowds this weekend.
The department says it will not close the parking lots at any less capacity than in previous years, but that rangers need to close the lots for safety reasons when they reach capacity.
Those who get in to hike on the Falls Trail should expect a very high volume of people on the trail, the department said.
Rangers recommend visiting the park on weekdays or on days with “less than ideal weather” to avoid the large crowds.
