HR director resigns; pool work needed

The city’s human resources director has announced her resignation.

Amy Lorson wrote a letter of resignation and gave it to Mayor Gabriel J. Campana this week, according to the mayor, who told the public works committee on Tuesday of the update in personnel.

Campana said the city must find a qualified candidate within the next two weeks and the position should pay $60,000 to $65,000 a year.

The human resources department is paid through a private company with a one-year contract, Campana said.

Meanwhile, the committee also learned that Splash Cove, the city’s only swimming pool at Memorial Park, will require an estimated $60,000 of needed repairs to open next spring.

“Its piping that was part of the prior Memorial Pool infrastructure,” Campana said.

The committee also heard from representatives with Rettew and Associates who are looking for a professional services contract for a long-term study of flood mitigation and water quality issues related to Grafius Run in the northside of the city.

The proposed contract would need to be reviewed by the city solicitor, Councilman N. Clifford “Skip” Smith, committee chairman, said.

“We have an obligation to taxpayers to try and prevent flooding,” Smith said.

Efforts are underway to work closely with Loyalsock Township, Lycoming County, Williamsport Municipal Water Authority and other funding resources in the flood mitigation effort and to maintain water quality.

The city street gas line replacement patching continues to be repaired throughout the city by subcontractors with UGI. It is a feverish schedule to get sub-base on the streets before asphalt plants close for the winter, said David Columbine, city public improvements coordinator.

If the work is not complete to the city official’s satisfaction, the utility will not receive permission in applying for permits for new work in the spring, the committee said.

Starting at $2.99/week.
