Renovations moving along in Hughesville
HUGHESVILLE — With the remodeling of the borough building moving along, borough council acted on issues concerning the project Monday night.
To cut costs, council voted to use laminate counter tops in the copy and breakroom instead of a more expensive material.
Two change orders pertaining to the remodel were approved. The first was for $600 to replace tubing for the baseboard heat. The second, for $2,500, was needed because the original plan to paint the paneling on the outside walls was altered when it was decided to remove the panelling and replace it with drywall, which then will be painted.
Council also approved the purchase of a police cruiser at a cost of $6,500.
In other actions, council:
• Approved the plan for a Hope for Cure 5K walk/run on June 24, with clarifications of the route.
• Agreed to allow Borough Secretary Gail Kocher to purchase flash drives and an external hard drive to back up the borough’s computers. She was authorized by council to decide the best price after quotes are received.
• Approved the borough obtaining a debit card from Muncy Bank and Trust Co. with a $500 point of sale limit and zero limit for debit.
• Voted to retain Steve Hess as the zoning solicitor for 2017.
• Accepted an estimate for mowing in the borough from Young’s Lawn Care at a cost equal to last year.
Council discussed an issue with bushes impeding movement on sidewalks and alleys in the borough. It was decided that the Streets Department would begin listing the alleys that are affected to notify homeowners of the problem. Council members said that they will likewise be noting sidewalks that have bushes growing over them as they are made aware of those involved.
Council’s next meeting will be at 7 p.m. March 27 at the Hughesville Public Library.
