Commission gives recommendation for city’s portion of gateway project
The Williamsport Planning Commission Monday gave a positive recommendation to the land development and lot consolidation plans for the Lycoming College Gateway Building.
The commission voted 5-0 on the project plan and reviewed plans for the 28,400-square-foot building and another for the city to realign Franklin and Basin streets.
Voting were Chelsea Rawson, Matt Vanaskie, Cynde Eister, Chip Plankenhorn and Tony Nardi.
The commission also gave a positive recommendation for a certificate of appropriateness requested by Keystone Realty Enterprises, 400 Market St.
The company wants to put a mural on the West Fourth Street side of the building, known as the Firestone Building, said Gary Knarr, city zoning officer.
The mural will spell out the word art, he said.
The commission denied a certificate of appropriateness for Liberty Church, 102 E. Third St., Knarr said.
The church officials wanted to install two business identification signs, one on the Mulberry Street side and another on East Third Street side, Knarr said.
The colors were lime green and black and it was recommended to be denied because the colors do not meet downtown design standards, Knarr said.
Council will vote and either deny the certificate or approve it. If council denies the certificate, the church officials may appeal council’s decision or try another color such as the suggested earth tones, Knarr said.
The commission gave a positive recommendation for a certificate of appropriateness requested by Genetti Hotel, 202 W. Fourth St.
The hotel officials are looking at removing the corner windows on West Fourth Street and replacing them with removable windows that open up.
The windows proposed have a reflective tint and the commission’s recommendation is to lighten the color and remove the reflective color.
Finally, the commission gave a positive recommendation for a certificate of appropriateness for Residence Inn, 150 W. Church St.
The inn officials want to put a door on the William Street side for an addition to the hotel, Knarr said.
