Local political parties host candidates
The county’s two major political parties will be holding their annual picnics this weekend.
On Saturday, gubernatorial candidate Scott Wagner will be a guest at the county Republican women’s picnic at 1 p.m. Saturday at James Short Park, 2301 Northway Road, Loyalsock Township.
“This is one of the only places he’s going to stop in the area before the election,” said Bonnie Katz, Lycoming County Council of Republican Women’s president.
Wagner, who Katz said is vocal on many issues, will speak at the picnic.
Anyone is invited to attend the picnic, which also includes a silent auction. Several baskets have been donated for the auction, Katz said.
Registration is requested for this event.
Then, from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, the annual county Democratic picnic and candidate meet and greet will be held at the Memorial Park pavilion.
“We welcome all Democrats, Republicans, Independents and friends to come meet the candidates and hear their ideas for moving Pennsylvania and the country forward,” said Bob Herzenberg, Lycoming County Democratic Committee chair.
Scheduled to speak are candidates John Fetterman, seeking the office of state lieutenant governor; Marc Friedenberg, seeking the 12th Congressional District seat; Airneezer Page, seeking the state’s 83rd District seat; Linda Sosniak, seeking the state 84th District seat, and other dignitaries.
