Commissioners OK funding suggestions

Locally elected and appointed officials voted on the following matters in the past week:
Federal
• The Senate voted 64-33 to confirm Charles P. Rettig’s nomination as Internal Revenue Service commissioner. Voting yes were Robert Casey, D-Scranton, and Pat Toomey, R-Zionsville.
County
• The Lycoming County commissioners approved SEDA-Council of Government’s project recommendations for 2018 Community Development Block Grant funding, which were for $100,000 toward the Lairdsville lateral installation, $30,000 toward generator acquisition for the Ralston Area Joint Authority and $101,179 toward renovating the American Rescue Workers’ Elmira Street building. Also included in the council’s recommendation are projects in South Williamsport, Montoursville and Jersey Shore, which receive their own allotments. The commissioners also approved a new contract on behalf of the prison for housing federal inmates for the U.S. Marshal Service, increasing rates from the high $50s to $80 per day per inmate. In addition, the commissioners approved a subgrant award, accepting up to $851,367 for intermediate punishment programs, to be split between the county and the West Branch Drug and Alcohol Abuse Coalition through June 30, 2020. Voting were Jack McKernan and Rick Mirabito. Tony Mussare was absent.
Municipal
• City Council voted 6-0 to transfer the city stormwater management system to Williamsport Sanitary Authority, which must vote to finalize the agreement. Voting were President Jonathan Williamson, Randall J. Allison, Liz Miele, Joel Henderson, Don Noviello, and Derek Slaughter. Bonnie Katz was absent.
• Jersey Shore Borough Council voted 6-0 to approve the minimum municipal obligation pension allocation of $36,059 covering borough employees. Voting yes were Sean Simcox, Kenneth Scheesley, Barb Schmouder, Janet Barnhart, Matthew Haag and Michael Zellers. Marguerite Dyroff and Paul Garrett were absent.
School District
• Jersey Shore Area School Board approved a new public comment policy. There will now be two 30-minute times for comment during board meetings, one at the beginning for items on the agenda and one at the end for anything else.
• The Loyalsock Township School Baord approved a proposal for architectural services for the construction of a track team building and concession stand at Schick Elementary. Members voting were Christina Kiessling, Edward H. Ade Jr., Charles W. Edmonds, David F. Hornberger, Robert D. Leidecker, John B. Raymond, Paul R. Watson and Paul R. Young II. Absent: Melvin E. Wentzel.
• The South Williamsport School District announced that environmental testing was being done in the district’s buildings. They also approved a contract with BAYADA Home Health Care Inc. for the upcoming school year. Members present were Chris Branton, Gregg Anthony, Nathan Miller, Cathy Bachman, Airneezer Page, Steve Persun, Erica Molino, Sue Bowman and Sue Davenport.
