LEGISLATIVE TALLY: County delays personnel vote; commission OKs new clinic proposal
Locally elected and appointed officials voted on the following matters in the past week:
County
• The Lycoming County commissioners held off on approving one of three personnel actions on the grounds that another option might be more suitable for filling an existing maintenance position in the county prison. The vote will take place this week pending further discussion. The commissioners also voted to renew seven contracts with local organizations such as STEP Inc., West Branch Drug and Alcohol Abuse Commission and UPMC Susquehanna Home Care and Hospice on behalf of Children and Youth Services. Voting were Commissioners Tony Mussare and Rick Mirabito. Commissioner Jack McKernan was absent.
• The Lycoming County Planning Commission approved a land development proposal from Wolf Run Veterinary Clinic owners Amy and Joshua Phillips to develop a full clinic and kennel on the property behind their existing location in Muncy Township. Voting were James Crawford, Larry Allison Jr., James Dunn and Howard Fry III. Herman Logue, Michael Sherman and Brett Taylor were absent. Carl Nolan and Christopher Keiser abstained.
School District
• The Williamsport Area School District board discussed enrollment figures for the current school year noting that numbers are slightly up. Total enrollment for the district is 4,914 up 14 from last year. An ad hoc committee has been formed to discuss the issue of transporting students in private vehicles. The committee will report back to the board.
• The Muncy School District held an Act 34 hearing to discuss the high school’s construction project to renovate a number of classrooms and create a new connecting building with the school estimated to cost a total of $16,943,633. The planned construction and renovations would add 31,175 square feet to the building and would include air conditioning to the entire school, a new gymnasium, wrestling rooms, a library, four classrooms made from the current library, a number of renovations to current classrooms and a bridge connecting the current building to a new addition.
