Loyalsock Township to review ordinance to reduce semitrailer traffic
Loyalsock Township’s board of supervisors reviewed an ordinance that would restrict semitrailer trucks from driving through a number of residential streets in the township during a meeting Tuesday night.
The proposed ordinance would stop commercial 18-wheelers from driving through Faxon and Lafayette parkways and Shiffler and Pennsylvania avenues — streets that are all registered as residential.
The new ordinance was brought to the board after the township fielded numerous complaints from residents related to the trucks driving by their homes and on streets that were not made for such traffic, according to Ryan Tira, the township’s solicitor.
The board discussed a second ordinance that would restrict the drilling of water wells at Loyal Plaza in response to contaminated water from dumped solvents under the plaza. The ordinance states that if a property owner in the area wants to drill for water, they will need approval from the Department of Environmental Protection that the water is drinkable.
Both ordinances will be action items during the next board meeting on Nov. 13.
Last week, the board held a road tour, one of two that it holds yearly. During the tour, board members had the opportunity to see projects in the township that have been worked on over the past year.
Board Member Marc C. Sortman said a highlight of the tour for him was seeing the flood work that the township has done in rural areas. The work focused on rural areas in the township where water washed out berms along the roads, Sortman said.
Board Member Virginia Eaton added that she was happy to see work done on the new children’s public pool to be completed in the spring.
“I personally liked seeing the swimming pool,” Eaton said. “Most of it is done, they will pour concrete in the spring, plumbing is done and it still requires features.”
In attendance were John C. Bower Jr., Sortman, Richard H. Wheeland and Eaton. Paul Nyman was absent.
