2019 Lycoming County dog licenses available

Dog owners whose furry friends are aged 3 months or older will need to get their dog licenses by Jan. 1, as required by state law.

Licenses for 2019 now are available at the Lycoming County Treasurer’s office, 33 W. Third St.

Unlicensed dogs could incur a fine of $300 per dog in addition to assessed court costs.

The cost is $8.50 for unaltered dogs and $6.50 if they are spayed or neutered. Senior citizens can get their unaltered dogs licensed for $6.50 or $4.50 if their dog is fixed.

Licenses also are available online at www.lyco.org and will be available in January at the Lycoming County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 2805 Reach Road.

“Licenses help identify the dogs so they can get back to their owners, and the funds that are generated help support shelters for stray animals,” said Victoria Stryker, executive director at the society. “We get grant money because of the licenses.”

There are two types of dog licenses available in the state — annual or lifetime. Lifetime licenses can be acquired if a person’s dog has or will receive a form of permanent identification, such as a tattoo or microchip.

These licenses cost $51.50 each for unaltered dogs or $31.50 for spayed or neutered dogs. Senior citizens can get lifetime licenses for $31.50 for unaltered dogs or $21.50 for fixed dogs.
