Parking Authority assures no rate change, new meters

The Williamsport Parking Authority assures there will be no rate changes in the coming year, although there will be new meters.

Authority members approved Wednesday a motion to forgo a short-term loan with M&T Bank to take possession of new parking meters, including the software and hardware maintenance of them, and instead opted to enter into an agreement directly with the seller. This agreement allows them to have direct contact with the seller in the case of equipment malfunction, which would allow them to withhold payment. This differs from the previous offer, which would commit them to continue making payments, even if the new meters are deemed faulty.

Under old business, they further discussed improving parking along Elmira Street near Liberty Arena to add more spaces. This would include landscaping and other improvements such as better lighting.
