Bids opened for new Bowman Field scoreboard

A new scoreboard is going to be ordered in time for the Williamsport Crosscutters season at BB&T Bank Park at Bowman Field.

Bids recently were opened by about five companies in the price range of $520,000 to $675,000, said William E. Nichols Jr., city finance director.

“The low bid was far lower than the second lowest,” he said.

The bids are under review to determine technical details provided by the companies to meet the specifications and intent.

The bid review likely will be done in time for City Council to get a look at Thursday night, Nichols said.

The scoreboard was a topic of discussion at the Hot Stove Dinner as Gabe Sinicropi, vice president of marketing for the Crosscutters, described the $1.5 million dollar upgrades.

The Crosscutters open up at home on June 14 against State College.

The stadium will host the third annual Major League Little League Classic with the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Chicago Cubs, with Joe Maddon, Cubs manager, a native of Hazleton, expected in town for the Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN.
