Open house on Park Avenue revitalization plan offered

An open house on plans to revitalize what is being called the Park Avenue neighborhood will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the YMCA, 641 Walnut St., city officials said.

A draft stabilization plan for the area will be unveiled during the meeting, said Stephanie Young, city community development director and project director.

The neighborhood in question runs on Park Avenue, from Walnut east to Hepburn streets, and from Park Avenue north to Brandon Avenue.

Through a strategic approach, the goal is to identify opportunities to stabilize an otherwise neglected part of the city, according to Mayor Gabriel J. Campana.

Identifying housing needs, neighborhood identity, connectivity, potential future development, and collaboration and coordination by local leaders and stakeholders is underway, Young said.

Key stakeholders, such as developers, consultants, residents and business owners, have contributed to the plan.

Additional ideas will be welcome as the plan is finalized, she said.

The state Department of Community and Economic Development is providing financial support for the project.
