Shoppers snag gifts from downtown retailers

Love is in the air today.

There are plenty of places to find a special gift for a special someone, or to enjoy an evening out tonight.

Paper red hearts adorned the shirts on display in the window of The Clothier, 131 W. Fourth St., where owners Francis and Karen Ciccarelli were preparing for shoppers Wednesday.

“We love Williamsport and the region,” the couple said. “We adore our customers.”

Don’t forget the chocolate.

William Lang, owner at Lang’s Chocolates, 350 Pine St., was among those dipping chocolate covered strawberries in the store.

“Everyone waits until the last moment on Valentine’s Day because they want the freshest quality,” he said.

Reservations were quickly being filled for a Cole Porter-themed music menu at the Peter Herdic House Restaurant, 407 W. Fourth St., said Liz Miele, chef and owner.

A twist on the Porter songs matched the food served, such as “I Get a Kick out of You:” Maine lobster, jumbo lump crab and turmeric bisque, with thyme-cayenne crackers; “Easy to Love:” grilled sea scallops paired with blood oranges, arugula, toasted almond and aguachile and “Anything Goes:” grilled 12-ounce strip steak accented with a jumbo lump crab mousse and caviar, served over creme fraiche-mashed potatoes.

Tables tonight are limited, but the restaurant will continue its Valentine’s menu Friday and Saturday, she said.

Something sparkling is always nice, too. There’s no bad way to give a gift of jewelry for loved ones. Among the locations to find the right gift choice are E.R. Kinley and Sons, 131 W. Fourth St. and Petro’s Jewelers, 201 Basin St.

Both stores have years of experienced associates and owners are prepared to assist customers today and throughout the rest of the year.
