Newcomer to run for treasurer

Cindy Newcomer has announced she will seek the Republican nomination for Lycoming County Treasurer in the May primary.

Newcomer, who serves as Muncy Creek Township Secretary/Treasurer, hopes to succeed County Treasurer Connie Rupert, who is not seeking re-election.

As secretary-treasurer, she is responsible for accounts payable and receivable, earned income tax collection, ordinance and resolution record keeping for the board of supervisors and the planning commission, code compliance coordination, human resource management, and responding to open records requests. She also schedules all township supervisors and planning commission meetings, prepares and publishes meeting minutes, sewer billing and collection and various other duties as assigned by the supervisors.

In addition, she stays on top of the changing municipal financial environment and recently completed two professional development offerings at the Pennsylvania College of Technology in Quickbooks accounting software, levels one and two.

She was formerly employed as a receptionist with the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit, which included scheduling and recording responsibilities for the social services department supervisor, registered nurse assessment coordinator, the recreational therapy supervisor and admissions director, as well as the director of nursing & Skilled Nursing Unit administrator.

She is a volunteer with the local 4H, a member of the Lycoming County Fair Equine Committee and is a former member of the Muncy Creek Community Volunteer Fire Co. and STRIKE K-9 Search and Rescue. She is on the board of directors for the Deater Foundation Inc., a not-for-profit organization, and has volunteered her time with the Muncy School District Field Hockey team, the ARS NOVA theater group and Crossroads Church Upwards Basketball program.

She and her husband Eric, an electrical instructor at the Pennsylvania College of Technology, live in Muncy Creek Township and have two children enrolled in the Muncy School District.
