South Williamsport Borough Council fills vacant seat

Despite protests from the public, the South Williamsport Borough Council voted to appoint Henry Frey Jr. to a vacant seat on the council on Monday.

Frey was appointed to fulfill a vacancy left by the passing of J. Bernard Shelb.

While the council was in agreement with the appointment, there seemed to be some concern from the public, with some objection from those in attendance. A citizen who requested to remain anonymous voiced displeasure at the appointment process.

“The last time you had a vacancy on the council, you advertised in the paper and had resumes submitted, and you picked the person you wanted. This time, you already picked the person two days after they previous member passed. It seemed like you already had someone in mind,” the citizen said.

Councilman Frey was sworn in after being voted in by nearly all council members in attendance, with the exception of Councilman Carl Nolan.
