Council to tackle Fire HQ repairs

The city Bureau of Fire headquarters on Walnut Street may get several structural improvements should City Council approve the work tonight.

Council is expected to review about $126,000 of repairs needed, including adding garage and exterior doors and putting in a natural gas generator secondary unit.

Council also will review a phase of the Pathway to Health work on Campbell Street and Little League Boulevard. The work encompasses adding decorative lighting, sidewalks and portals, said Adam Winder, general manager of city streets and parks department.

The pathway is a combination of making it easier for emergency vehicles to access and leave UPMC Susquehanna campus. The money, which is from the U.S. Department of Transportation and passed through the state Department of Transportation, pays for the improvements at the intersections that include traffic signals, sidewalks, lighting and overall access improvements for pedestrians.

Council also may decide to allow the administration to receive legal help as it changes a zoning ordinance to be more in line with newer cellular technology called 5G.
