District teachers to volunteer in community

In his report to the Williamsport Area School Board, Dr. Timothy S. Bowers, superintendent, said that the district currently has 289 children registered for kindergarten in the fall.

“We’ve been busy with those registrations and screenings,” he told the board.

He also shared that activities are still being planned for June 10, the day when district teachers are planning to volunteer for non-profits in the community. Bowers noted that any non-profits that would like help should contact the district.

“Our entire faculty, WEA staff, will be out in the community. We have several folks who have asked for volunteers and we are filling those needs. But, if there any other non-profits out there, we can still send folks out there,” he said. Following their morning of volunteering the staff will return to the high school for lunch and a time of celebrating new and retiring teachers as well as the accomplishments of the past year. Bowers also encouraged board members to join the group on that day.
