Water authority officials on City Council agenda

Several selections for key authority positions in the city are on City Council’s slate tonight.

Mayor Gabriel J. Campana has authority to select individuals who he wants to see serve on the Williamsport Municipal Water and Sanitary Authority.

Campana has selected Cindi Perry for a five-year reappointment, and newcomer Dr. Kent Trachte, president of Lycoming College, to fill a vacancy.

Both went through an interview process earlier this week before council’s ad-hoc committee, which does not recommend, but rather listens, to reasons why each wants to serve.

“We had to file in court to get the mayor to move on this,” Councilwoman Liz Miele said.

Others going through the appointment process tonight include Christopher Keiser, a landscape architect, who is seeking reappointment to a four-year term on the city planning commission, and Craig Miller, who would be an alternate on the civil service board.

In other action expected, council will note the upcoming departure of Council President Jonathan Williamson, who is taking another professional position next month.

It also will remark on the 200th anniversary of the passing of Michael Ross, proprietor and founder of Williamsport.

The meeting is at 7:30 p.m. at council chambers in City Hall.

The next council meeting is at 7:30 p.m. July 3.
