Banquet to recognize community members

Frank Girardi will be the keynote speaker at the 2019 Lycoming County Brotherhood Alliance Awards banquet at 6 p.m., July 31.

Paul Missigman will be presented with the Ray Keyes Sports Award. Frank Lupacchino and Blue Star Mothers the brotherhood honorees.

From 1976 through 1982 Lupacchino was the Assistant Central Regional Director for Little League Baseball and was the volunteer assistant athletic director at Bishop Neumann High School.

Missigman was a history teacher and basketball coach at Williamsport Area High School. He organized a group of parents, athletes and community leaders who held rummage sales, bake sales and any other fund-raising ideas they could come up with to raise the money needed to start the Millionaire baseball team. Then-sports editor Ray Keyes was a great supporter of their efforts, which garnered almost $25,000.

The region’s Blue Star Mothers chapter sends care packages to deployed troops, supporting local veterans and Gold Star Families. They also have several events throughout the year that the public is invited to participate in: The Patriot 5K Color Walk/Run in September and Wreaths Across America in December.
