Commissioners approve contracts for area flood mitigation projects

The Lycoming County commissioners approved local firms for flood mitigation work at their meeting Tuesday.

A contract of $316,450 for Insinger Excavating LLC was approved for work including streambank restoration in different parts of the county.

The other contract of $41,500 was approved for Glenn O. Hawbaker.

Specific streams targeted for the work were given priority by the state.

In personnel action, commissioners approved the hirings of Arminda V. Moran as a telecommunicator at $16.59 per hour and Caroline Posner as a law clerk at $38,548 per year.

Both are replacement hirings.

Kristen McLauglin, senior program analyst, SEDA-Council of Governments, advised commissioners that the county’s annual Community Development Block Grant allocation will amount to $277,991.

Among the organizations and municipalities being considered for the funding are STEP Inc. Homes in Need, Fire Tree Place for after school programming and the borough of DuBoistown for stormwater work.

At their next meeting, commissioners are expected to hire a firm for concrete slab work for a leachate tank at the county landfill.

Bids for the work were received from Mar-Allen Concrete, $89,703, and R&L Development Co., $144,400.

Commissioners will take action on an agreement between the county and the borough of South Williamsport for the Greater Williamsport Area Levee System Project.

Commissioners are also set to approve a state homeland security grant agreement for $327,128.
