Council approves agreement for upgrading borough water system
Montoursville Borough Council Monday night approved professional service agreements toward upgrading the water system.
Council voted to hire Levine Engineering at a cost not to exceed $40,000 for design work to monitor the water operation.
The firm was also approved for design work of a water line under Broad Street. That work is not to exceed $8,500 and will involve connecting a well.
The vote was 5-0 to approve each agreement.
Voting yes were Eric Greenway, Mark Tillson, Ted Haines, Robert Brown, and Christopher Lucas. Tina Kline was absent.
In other action, council approved a proposal of $12,755 from M&M Asphalt Corp. to pave the borough mini-parking area on Broad Street.
Valley Trucking & Paving was approved to pave Church Alley at a cost of $4,200.
Following a public hearing, council approved a liquor license transfer to the borough.
SAI William 1, which operates a convenience store at 447 Broad St., intends to sell beer from the location, according to Joe Mashinski, an attorney for the company.
“This isn’t a bar or night club,” he told council.
Mashinski said Weis and Sheetz stores are under the same type of liquor licensing requirement.
He called council approval the first step in a long state requirement process.
Council agreed to reimburse Todd Mahaffey $575 for a malfunctioning pressure washer the borough sold to him.
Council met in executive session following the regular meeting to consider legal matters.
The next meeting is set for 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9.
