Council to examine City Hall projects
City Council will be asked Thursday to vote to award contracts for City Hall elevator and access ramp projects.
The projects, depending on a security addition, add up to nearly $930,000, according to the city finance department estimate released this week.
The city finance committee recommended council table the matter until a full study on accessibility needs for public facilities is completed.
Codes enforcement administration Joseph Gerardi said he would try to get that done in four weeks for the committee to review.
Council is expected to hear a report from finance officials on the minimum municipal pension obligation next year for police, fire and officers and employees unions.
Council also looks to create an ordinance renaming College Place to Warrior Way, a reference of the Lycoming College mascot and an homage to the ongoing Gateway project redevelopment.
The college is preparing a lot consolidation and dedication for Basin Street in anticipation of the street becoming a two-way corridor between East Fourth and East Third streets. The lot consolidation is to make a single lot out of about eight parcels for the purpose of proposed mixed-use, according to Gary Knarr, city zoning administrator.
Council is expected to vote on a resolution to approve an easement agreement between the city and McCormick Associates. This is related to providing parking for the renovated Way’s Garden, said Adam Winder, general manager of the city streets and parks department.
The administration anticipates council will vote on the sale of a fire department substation at Almond Street and a parcel the city maintains along Rural Avenue.
Council is expected to approve a feasibility study between the city and state Department of Environmental Protection for a flood protection program on Grafius Run.
