Gas line company to be on city streets
A company will put in natural gas lines along Campbell Street from Vallamont Drive starting about Sept. 23.
Representatives with UGI Inc. told City Council’s public works committee Tuesday the work would involve the replacement of the gas lines with new ones and then applying a base coat of pavement.
Following the work on the Vallamont section, the gas company and its representatives will be in the areas of Almond and Sheridan streets to relieve water infiltration in lines, UGI officials said.
The committee has been meeting regularly with the utility representatives in order to better inform the public ahead of time.
Motorists and pedestrians can anticipate seeing J.F. Kiely Construction, the subcontractor for the company, in the work zones.
Preparation for the realignment of Franklin Street will be done as work continues on the East Third Street Gateway project near Lycoming College.
The council this week is expected to review an ordinance vacating Franklin Street, as it becomes realigned with Basin Street at the intersection with East Fourth Street at the college’s new southern entrance.
Mark Benner, city civil engineer, presented the plan to the committee.
