Commissioners approve contract to enhance financial transparency
Lycoming County Commissioners approved an agreement they say will bring more transparency to government during their meeting Tuesday.
The $59,650 contract with OpenGov is part of a computer software package tied to revealing the county’s online spending and finances on a monthly basis.
Commissioner Rick Mirabito said it will allow the public to better scrutinize county costs resulting in more effective government.
It will also help county department heads better manage their work and costs, according to Commissioner Jack McKernan.
Commissioner Tony Mussare questioned if the county might be better off hiring someone instead to do the work.
The yearly contract was approved 3-0.
In other action, a work change order was approved for a landfill construction project.
The project involving soil work is expected to take about two weeks.
Commissioners approved HRI Inc. for a $311,703 agreement involving the County Farm Reconstruction project.
HRI was the low bidder for the project which will include resurfacing and other work.
A $79,261 contract with Fairbanks Inc. also was approved for purchase of a truck scale system.
Commissioners are expected to consider other matters at their Thursday meeting, including a $334,049 emergency management performance grant to offset the costs of four Department of Public Safety employees.
Also expected to be on the agenda are several food contracts and projects funded by Community Development Block Grant funding.
The CDBG projects are for STEP Inc. for its housing rehabilitation program and the Muncy Public Library for building infrastructure improvements including handicapped accessible needs.
Commissioners will also consider several personnel items.
