Montgomery Borough discusses chief at meeting

MONTGOMERY – The borough continues to operate without a full-time police chief and Sunday night, four members of borough council held a special meeting and executive session to discussion the police for a personnel matter.

On Sunday night, Susan Andrews, Amber Wilt, Shawn Coles and Fae Herb held the discussion on police personnel in private and did not return to vote, said Donna Miller, borough coordinator. Personnel matters are privileged to the executive session under the state Sunshine Law.

The borough does not have a chief but does have a full-time officer in charge, Eric Winters, Miller said.

In addition, there are a total of seven police in the department, six of which are part-time, she said.

Four council is a quorum, however, absent were L. Whitlow Wertz; Dale Bren08sethdle and Lynn Crist, chairman.

The borough council holds its regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, she said. Miller was not able to say whether the police issue will be on the agenda or up for a vote.

There was a minor discussion before the four councilwomen went into executive session over the surveillance camera positioned at the Community Park.

The cameras are working and are functional, but there is an issue with the internal system of the computer screen and that is being addressed by the police, Miller said.
