Huffman grabs register and recorder post

In a close race for Lycoming County Register and Recorder, Republican nominee Dave Huffman defeated Kathy Rinehart.

Unofficial election results show the incumbent Rinehart, who ran as the Democratic nominee, with 12,447 votes to 12,735 for Huffman.

All told, Huffman picked up 50.49 percent of the votes.

Write-in votes totaled 42.

In the only other race for a county row office, Republican Thomas D. Heap grabbed 17,491 votes to win election for Lycoming County prothonotary,

Heap’s opponent, Democrat Jeni Nash-Harvey, received 7,386 votes.

Voters overwhelmingly checked yes to retain Marc F. Lovecchio and Joy McCoy as Lycoming County Court Common Pleas Judges.

Unofficial vote totals were 17,980 voting yes to retain Lovecchio and 3,840 voting no. For McCoy, the numbers were 17,089 yes and 4,147 no.

The following candidates ran unopposed for county offices: court of common pleas judge, Ryan Tira; district attorney, Ryan Gardner; coroner, Charles Keissling, treasurer, Cindy Newcomer, magisterial judge, Aaron S. Biichle.

Total ballots cast in the election totaled 25,906. The voter turnout was 38.18 percent.

The official vote count gets under way Friday.
