Temps to drop again after record breaking Sunday

After a record breaking high temperature Sunday, temperatures will drop to typical winter normals this week, according to the National Weather Service, in State College.

Sunday’s high was 65 degrees with an uncommon spring-like day with sun and few clouds. The previous record for the day was 64 degrees in 2018, according to data from the service. Normal temperatures for this time of year are between 34 and 19 degrees. Sunday’s low was 46 degrees.

“There was a warm southwest flow ahead of a strong cold front that brought the strong warm weather,” Greg DeVoir, meteorologist, said.

Today’s highs are expected at around 45 degrees with mostly cloudy skies and lows will drop into the low 30s.

As a cold front starts to move in, Tuesday has a 30 percent chance of a wintry mix in the morning before 8 a.m. Later in the day, there will be a 50 percent chance of rain and light winds with precipitation not amounting to anything more than an inch.

Tuesday night’s lows will continue to be in the low 30s.

Wednesday’s highs will be near 45 with mostly sunny skies and a slight chance of rain showers as the cold front moves through the evening into Thursday.

Wednesday evening’s chance of precipitation is around 40 percent with a wintry mix and snow showers likely to happen through the night.

Thursday’s weather returns with chances of dry weather leading into what is said to be a wet weekend.

The highs for Thursday remain close to 40 degrees with partly sunny skies and the lows will fall to the low 20s. Another weather system of cold is coming through Friday through the weekend that will bring snow showers and rain, DeVoir said.

During the day on Friday, the highs will be around 32 degrees. As the day dwindles to a close, the chance for precipitation, snow in this case, will be around 70 percent with low temperatures in the low 20s.

Saturday is going to be a stormy day of the week with an 80 percent chance of rain and snow with high’s in the low 30s. The lows that night include a 40 percent chance for snow showers and breezes around a low of 21 degrees.

The week will end with low temperatures of 28 throughout the day on Sunday with breezy winds.
