Ice, sleet on the way

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory effective through Thursday morning.

The advisory starts around 8 Wednesday night as a storm approaches from the southwest.

Central and North-central Pennsylvania are in store for mixed precipitation – ice, sleet and snow – with total accumulations of up to an inch, forecasters say.

Higher elevations will likely see the greatest ice accumulation with lower amounts in the valleys. Bridges and overpasses are most susceptible to ice glaze.

“Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous travel conditions could impact the Thursday morning commute,” the NWS said. “The higher elevations will likely see the greatest ice accumulation with lower amounts in the valleys. Bridges and overpasses are most susceptible to ice glaze.”

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission remind motorists to adjust speeds based on driving conditions as winter weather impacts Pennsylvania roads.
