Montgomery schools approve maintenance agreements, new coaches

MONTGOMERY — The Montgomery School Board unanimously approved a yearly maintenance service agreement proposal of $15,260 for HVAC services from Silvertip Inc. on Tuesday.

In addition, the board unanimously approved the quote from WayFare Facility Management to screen and recoat the Montgomery Area Community Center gym for $4,290 and to screen and recoat the high school gym for $2,800. Jon DeSantis, board member, added these fees are paying for routine maintenance to keep the floors in the best condition.

In another matter, the board approved the proposed 2020-21 Intermediate Unit 17 budget. Dana Pick, Chris Johnson, Paula Yeckley and Michael Wright voted yes while DeSantis abstained.

The board approved the following coaches for spring sports for the 2019-2020 school year for the following rates:

* Michael Sherman, head junior high boys soccer coach, $2,050

* Joshua Childs, assistant junior high boys soccer coach, volunteer

* Todd Smith, assistant junior high boys soccer coach, volunteer

* Greta Kriner, head junior high girls soccer coach, $2,050

* Charles Yohn, assistant varsity baseball coach, volunteer

* Dylan Gordon, assistant varsity baseball coach, volunteer

* Charles Hall, assistant track coach, $2,715

* Skip Livingston, assistant track coach, $2,300

* Ed Sampsell, assistant track coach, $2,300

* Dillon Cupp, assistant track coach, volunteer

* Hugh Umpstead, assistant track coach, volunteer

The board also approved Paul Kile as head junior high football coach during the fall sports season during the 2020-2021 school year at a salary of $2,050.

In other business, the board unanimously approved the retirement resignations of Shelly Heinrich, junior/senior high school science teacher, Diane McCormick, district librarian, Susan Palazzo, elementary music, vocal and band director and Brad Laidacker, junior/senior high school history teacher.

The next meeting will be held Tuesday, March 17, at 7 p.m. at the board administration room at 120 Penn St.
