Planners approve calf barn development plans

The Lycoming County Planning Commission recommended for approval a land development plan for a calf barn in Limestone Township during its regular monthly meeting Thursday.

The barn, to house 190 calves, sits along Pine Woods Road on 55 acres of land owned by Elias and Fannie Stoltzfus.

It was noted that the proposed development has already met zoning requirements.

Jenny Picciano, community development/lead planner for the county, apprised the Commission about the Sylvan Dell Project in Armstrong Township.

Plans for the 227-acre property near the South Williamsport Community Park complex call for a public nature preserve.

South Williamsport, DuBoistown and the township will manage and maintain the property as part of the South Williamsport Recreational Authority with elected officials and residents from each municipality serving on the board.

The $1.48 million project includes funding from PennVEST and the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Picciano said.

Closing date for the property is this month.
