Airport authority to open up bids on taxiway

The Williamsport Municipal Airport Authority voted to advertise for bids for a taxiway project during its regular monthly meeting Thursday.

Plans are to begin the project, which will include a complete re-installation of a taxiway, later this year, according to Airport Executive Director Richard Howell.

Bid openings are expected next month.

Howell noted that the Montour Street project remains behind schedule.

Plans call for extending the street to the airport.

Howell said the airport should be eligible for funding through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act signed into law by President Trump March 27.

The $10 billion funding stream is being awarded as economic relief to eligible U.S. airports impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
