Coroner confirms five new COVID-19 deaths in Lycoming County

The number of coronavirus deaths in Lycoming County jumped from four to nine as of Monday, according to Lycoming County Coroner Charles E. Kiessling Jr.

“We made it through the weekend with no new COVID-19 deaths until Sunday night and Monday which, by then, raised the number from four to nine,” he said in a post online.

“These five persons had numerous medical problems, including heart disease, lung disease, peripheral vascular disease, cerebrovascular disease, stroke, osteoporosis, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and dementia, just to name a few diagnoses,” Kiessling said.

“The number of positive COVID-19 case in the county has increased to 132,” he said, adding that another 1,424 people tested negative, making the number of positive cases of those who were tested for the coronavirus .09 percent.

“Probably 50 to 60 percent of those who tested positive are likely no longer infectious if they were tested at the end of March and early April, and if their symptoms have completely cleared,” Kiessling said.
