School board talks graduation plans

HUGHESVILLE — The East Lycoming School Board unanimously approved the list of graduating seniors in a Zoom conference meeting on Tuesday. The board also spoke about graduation plans which include one car of family members, each car spread six feet a part, to view the screening of the students getting their diplomas that was previously filmed last week. There are no lawn chairs allowed. Every person attending must be in their vehicle.

The screening will take place at the local fairgrounds on the last day of classes, June 3. Updates will be on the East Lycoming website.

In another business matter, the proposed budget for the 2020-2021 academic year included zero increase in expenditures, revenues and taxes. The final budget will be read at the June 23 meeting.

In addition, the board agreed to continue two school board member’s positions for the 2020-2021 academic year.

Donna Gavitt was approved as council treasurer for the 2020-21 academic school year and Richard Michael was reappointed as board president for the 2020-2021 academic school year.

In terms of COVID-19 impacts, the board agreed to amend their current Family and Medical Leave Act policy to allow employees to take medical leave for COVID-19 reasons.

The board also agreed to the Pennsylvania School Board Association resolution to provide support and relief to school districts who had unexpected costs due to the COVID-19 outbreak including cyber schooling.

In addition to this, Gavitt was appointed as the PSBA delegate to attend PSBA meetings for direction on what schools are doing for the next academic year.

In other business, the board appointed Mr. Richard Reichner as Jr. High School Principal effective July 1.

The next East Lycoming School Board meeting will be held Tuesday, June 9.
