Montgomery Borough fires officer

MONTGOMERY — In a 5-0 vote, the borough council voted to terminate Officer Eric Winters on Monday, with Laurel Green and Susan Andrews abstaining.

Roger McRae, Rocky Sanguedolce, Allen Bennett, Clay Steward and Drew Onufrak voted in favor of the motion.

Winters was promoted to corporal in October 2019 and helped lead a police regionalization effort with several nearby municipalities, but talks were stalled when several pulled out.

“Council requested an internal investigation and, following a review of the results from that internal investigation, council elected to terminate Officer Eric Winters,” said Susan Andrews, who was advised by the borough solicitor to abstain due to a conflict of interest.

The investigation is considered a personnel matter and is not required to be made public.
