‘Over the Edge’ rappelling fundraiser back in September
The Williamsport Area School District Education Foundation, River Valley Regional YMCA and YWCA Northcentral PA will join forces for the third annual Over the Edge event in Williamsport Sept. 19, according to a news release.
“Over the Edge is a unique fundraiser allowing three organizations to come together and raise money to support their missions,” the news release said.
By committing to raising at least $1,000, to support one of the named organizations, participants gain the opportunity to rappel down the side of the tallest building in downtown Williamsport.
During the event, trained volunteers offer support and control the ropes at both ends.
“They not only provide support, they also provide encouragement to the fearless community members as they rappel down the side of the building,” the news release said.
All three organizations are looking to bring in more energy, participants, sponsors and funds than ever before to support their missions. Funds raised on behalf of the education foundation will help the launch of a COVID-19 Relief Fund for the school district, which will support educational resources and technology, mental health resources for students, and resources to support economically disadvantaged students.
The funds raised for the River Valley Regional YMCA will support programs and services that address services area needs in youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
Funds raised for the YWCA Northcentral PA will directly support the women who are working on rebuilding their lives after experiencing violent crimes and/or homelessness.
The third annual event will have some extra precautions in place in effort to adhere to guidelines due to COVID-19 for those who decide to rappel, according to the news release.
