Police pension board approves retirements

City Police Chief Damon Hagan has been approved to enter a drop-pension program available to city police.

Hagan was approved in an 8-0 vote by the city police pension board.

The board consists of seven members of City Council and former Agent Steve Sorage.

The board also approved Officer Debra Wasilauski for the drop.

It also gave a vote to former Capt. Donald Mayes, who can retire in 2021 at age 50, and no longer is employed with the city.

The board, using remote technology to meet, did not provide the pension calculations for viewers.

A state Right-to-Know request will be necessary to obtain the calculations, according to Austin White, assistant city solicitor, and Joseph Pawlak, city interim finance director.

Pension calculations were easily obtained by reporters under previous administrations.
