Avis Borough to allow evening performances at area restaurants
AVIS — The Avis Borough Council unanimously voted to allow local businesses, like Dave and Ruby’s Oak Grove Tavern, to play music and have bands play for their customers up until 10 p.m. on weekdays and 11 p.m. on weekends.
The tavern’s owners said they just finished an outside deck large enough to seat 50 people, socially distanced, and still allow for bands to play a couple of nights a week to bring in more customers during the struggles of the pandemic.
In another matter, the borough also unanimously agreed to allow the Avis Fire Company to move its existing roof drains and attach them to the already existing storm drain in an in-person meeting on Monday night.
Three fire company members were present at the meeting to discuss further information, but had to leave due to a fire emergency.
The company will pay for the construction, to be done by Charles Construction.
In other business, Allen Uhler, borough engineer, recommended the borough put in a new flow meter on First Street as the current meter was struck by lightning, to which council agreed.
Lastly, the recreation committee ordered flat benches for the dog park near the baseball field on Prospect Avenue.
Members present were Don Aungst, Scott Stover, Mike Herman, Jeff Raab and Elmer Christian.
The next meeting will be Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. at the borough building on Ross Street.
