Child killed by toppled forklift near Montgomery
MONTGOMERY — A tragic accident involving a forklift on private property on Saturday night claimed the life of a 12-year-old boy from Lancaster County, according to Lycoming County Coroner Charles E. Kiessling Jr.
Pronounced dead at the scene following the 10:15 p.m. accident was Samuel Beiler, a resident of the farming community of Ronks, Kiessling said, adding that the youngster died of blunt force trauma injuries after he became trapped underneath a forklift that toppled over on top of him in the 1000 block of Elimsport Road, about a mile west of Route 15.
The boy, along with a second passenger, were on a forklift when its operator accidentally drove off the side of the berm and down an embankment, Kiessling said he was told.
While the operator and one passenger managed to jump free of the forklift as it toppled, Beiler could not, Kiessling said. Clinton Township Volunteer firefighters responded and worked to free the victim from under the forklift.
