Committee not set on canceling veterans parade

The fate of the 2020 Lycoming County Veterans Parade remains on hold.

Richard Swank, president of the parade committee, said no decision has yet been made on whether or not to hold the event.

“The decision will be forthcoming a week from Monday (today) when we have our meeting,” he said.

The parade is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7, in Williamsport.

There was a post made on the parade committee’s Facebook page claiming the parade is canceled, however Swank insists plans remain on hold until the upcoming meeting.

Last year’s parade, held in Montoursville, reportedly drew its largest audience since the event was brought back after a hiatus of a number of years.

The parade rotates each year to different communities of Lycoming County.

“There is a tremendous amount of work that goes into this,” he said. “We have our first meeting in January and then on the first Monday of the month thereafter.”

Swank said, if the parade is canceled, some other kind of tribute to honor veterans will likely take place.
