Mapping eyed as city tool
Creation of digital maps of economic development projects in Williamsport could track their progress, a city councilman said.
Councilman David Banks of the council economic revitalization committee had an idea of making maps available for city workers and the public.
The idea resonated with Councilwoman Liz Miele, committee chair.
A digital map can capture projects and identify those lagging and others moving ahead, officials said.
Banks said he was thinking about doing some map work using open source software and data.
Lycoming County Planning Department has an individual with mapping skills who could be tapped to assist.
Williamsport Municipal Water and Sanitary Authority has mapped its storm-water systems, officials there said.
It appeared officials wanted maps for internal use but included allowing access to the public in the interest of transparency.
