East Lycoming School District Superintendent Michael Pawlik notified families in the district that a staff member at Ashkar Elementary School has tested positive for COVID-19.

Pawlik’s letter to families Friday said the state Department of Health was notified and officials with the department determined the staff member has no been in “close contact” with any students. The state Department of Health, therefore, does not recommend quarantining for any students at the school, the letter said.

East Lycoming School District has three elementary schools. Ashkar is in Hughesville, while two other elementary schools serve families in Picture Rocks and Lairdsville.
