Woodward Township amends Comcast agreement

LINDEN — In a short meeting, Woodward Township Supervisors agreed to send Comcast an amended version of their 2021 franchise agreement to include a 10 percent penalty fee.

The revised agreement includes a five percent franchise fee to be paid to the township within 45 days at the end of the quarter and within 60 days at the end of the last quarter of the year, which is different from the current agreement the supervisors are under.

The current agreement requires Comcast to pay the township within 30 days at the end of each quarter, including the last quarter of the year, with a 10 percent penalty fee if they pay late.

According to both Marc Drier, township solicitor, and Judy Carpenter, township secretary, Comcast has always paid on time and had “no problem paying within 30 days.”

The amended contract was sent to Comcast for negotiation and more information will come at the next meeting.

The next Woodward Township meeting will be held Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. at the township building.
