Athens teen killed in Tioga County

State police reported a teenager was killed and another person injured in a single-vehicle crash late Sunday afternoon in Tioga County.

Police said the victim, a 17-year-old boy from Athens and driver of the vehicle, was pronounced dead by the county coroner at the scene of the crash along Route 49 in Osceola Township.

His identity has not been released.

A passenger in the car, Kyleigh Burton, 18, of Knoxville, was transported by ambulance to Robert Packer Hospital for injuries suspected to be serious.

Police reported the car was traveling east along the highway at an unknown rate of speed when it skidded and went off the highway while attempting to pass another vehicle and struck a railroad tie.

The vehicle spun before striking a tree.

Police were assisted at the scene by Elkland Fire Department, Valley Community Ambulance, and UPMC paramedics.
