Commissioners OK agreement for levee

Lycoming County commissioners Tuesday approved a contract with Wood Environment and Infrastructure Solutions, Blue Bell, for the levee project.

The $285,700 agreement will cover operational, maintenance and costs associated with bringing the levee and its needs up to date.

Shannon Rossman, county planning director, noted that having such an agreement in place will help with receiving future funding for the levee.

“This is to actually let everyone know what the actual operation and maintenance will be going forward,” she said.

Commissioner Rick Mirabito noted that the agreement will help implement best practices for costs associated with the levee.

“It’s probably one of the most important things facing us in the county,” he said.

In the meantime, Rossman noted that grants and other types of funding are being explored for the levee.

In other matters, commissioners approved several agreements for county landfill needs including the purchase of a used utility vehicle for $15,677.

Commissioners also approved an annual agreement for $6,764 with Dell Marketing to provide technical support for software and amendments to agreements with Barton and Loguidice for engineering and environmental consulting services and Seedway, LLC for seeding and erosion control at the landfill.

Commissioners approved agreements with Centre County Youth Services Bureau and Chester County for child welfare services.

The following personnel were approved to fill vacancies:

• Amber Sakiadis, court clerk, $14.09 per hour.

• Chad E. Aldenderfer, part-time deputy sheriff, $18.34 per hour.

• Melissa A. Wegener, clerk, sheriff’s office, $14.09 per hour.

• Zachary R. Zondory, correctional officer, prison, $17.46 per hour.

Commissioners also approved the hiring of Jodie M. Fagnano to fill the newly created position of part-time central processing officer for the district attorney’s office at $18.34 per hour.

Also at the meeting, commissioners approved:

• An agreement with Dr. Elcock-Messam to provide expertise on child abuse cases for the public defender’s office at a cost not to exceed $20,000.
