Loyalsock Township tax collector to seek reelection

Dorothy “Dottie” White Mertz has announced her intention to seek reelection as Loyalsock Township tax collector on the Republican ticket for a seventh term in the May primary.

She was first elected as tax collector in 1998, and has served as president of the Lycoming County Association of Tax Collectors since 1999. She has been a member of the Pennsylvania State Association of Tax Collectors since 1998 and currently sits on the board as District V representative. She was appointed as State Convention chairwoman beginning 2013, overseeing training of over 300 tax collectors statewide. She has also taught tax collector classes for the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors

Mertz was also appointed in 2002 by Loyalsock Township and the Loyalsock Township School District to collect business privilege, license and local services taxes. She formerly was manager of inventory control for Williamsport Wirerope Works, where she was responsible for inventory and auditing of 14 warehouses throughout the United States.

Mertz holds a degree in business administration from Thomas Edison State College in Trenton, New Jersey and has pursued additional studies in business, human resources, accounting, and computer programming, from the Pennsylvania College of Technology, Penn State University and Lycoming College.

She is a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Mertz was also a member of the Williamsport Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association: Business Associate of the Year 2008, former board member and secretary of The Wyrope Credit Union, and a member of the Loyalsock Garden Club. She was a member of the board of governors for the Community Arts Center, and the Joint Accounting and Legal Advisory Committee for Penn College and Professional Education Act 48 Committee for Loyalsock School District.

Mertz and her husband Bob reside in Loyalsock Township.
