Body of missing Williamsport teen found in river at Hummels Wharf
A body recovered Saturday afternoon from a section of the Susquehanna River in Northumberland County was that of 16-year-old Maverick Wilton, a Williamsport resident who had been missing since early December, Northumberland County Jim Kelley confirmed to the The Daily Item in Sunbury.
Attempts by the Sun-Gazette to reach Kelley on Wednesday were unsuccessful.
The coroner told The Item that dental X-rays were needed to identify the youth.
An autopsy was conducted in Allentown on Tuesday, but the cause and manner of death were pending further testing, Kelley told the newspaper.
The teen was identified in his obituary as Maverick Ronald Wilton-Morgret. His obituary read in part, “In his short life, he learned about the importance of giving back, caring for the homeless, loving animals and sharing his big heart with those around him.”
The Item reported the body was discovered near the Shady Nook Boat launch at Hummels Wharf, Snyder County. However, the river itself is considered Northumberland County.
Kelley did not provide any other details to The Item. It was unknown if investigators had any idea where, when or how the teen’s body entered the river. State police are leading the investigation into the boy’s mysterious death.
