Williamsport board adds new member

The Williamsport Area School Board approved Lisa Nible, 1404 Walnut St., to fill a vacancy on the board left by the resignation of Nancy Somers last month. The remainder of Somers’ term runs until the end of November.

Nible will officially be sworn in by a member of the judiciary prior to the next board meeting, May 4.

With Nible’s appointment, the board is still down one member as the resignation of Marc Shefsky, effective April 13 was also approved at the meeting. The board has 30 days to fill Shefsky’s spot and voted to advertise the position and conduct interviews at their next meeting, rather than interviewing for both positions at the meeting.

The board noted that Harry Blanchard and Michelle Deaver, who also interviewed for Somers’ position, were welcome to apply for the seat that remains.

Board members and members of the administration were effusive in their praise that the district and the Williamsport Education Association had reached an agreement, which runs from July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2024. The board approved the agreement unanimously.

The board also approved the Confidential Administrative Support Personnel Compensation Plan for July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2024.

“This is a team of people who really work behind the scenes to do a tremendous amount of work that the community doesn’t necessarily see — that our kids and teachers don’t even see most of the time. It’s that behind the scenes stuff that makes the system truly work efficiently,” Superintendent Timothy S. Bowers said, commenting on the compensation plan for support personnel.

The board agreed their next meeting, originally scheduled for Tuesday will be held at 6 p.m., May 4, in-person, in the High School Auditorium. A health and safety protocol will be observed with masks required, temperature checks and social distancing being observed.

Members of the board present were: Lori Baer, Pat Dixon, Jennifer Lake, Jane Penman, Star Poole, Barbara Reeves and Adam Welteroth.
