Mayor names Snyder next city police chief

Mayor Derek Slaughter announced Tuesday that he elevated two police captains to serve as chief and assistant chief.

Capt. Justin Snyder was picked to

become the new chief of police and Capt. Jason Bolt the new assistant chief of police following Chief Damon Hagan’s retirement.

Snyder brings nearly 16 years of experience to the position and Bolt more than 17 years of experience.

“I look forward to working with both of these qualified individuals to continue moving our city forward,” Slaughter said.

The swearing-in ceremony will be held 9:30 a.m. at City Council chambers.

Slaughter has not said whether there will be any captains in the administration.

Hagan announced his retirement Monday, stating his final day is Friday after a 22-year career with the city.
